Kerala Science Congress from January 29

The 24th Kerala Science ongress, being organised by State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) would be held at Kottayam from January 29 to 31 next year.

The annual event was aimed at revitalising research and development in the state and to identify new talents in scientific research, N P Kurian, executive vice president of KSCSTE told reporters here.
 
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the conference on January 29 at the Rubber Institute, Kottayam. The meet is being organised in association with the Rubber Board, he said.
 
"Climate change and Plantation Crops and Spices of Kerala" would the special theme of the Congress. The theme would specifically consider the challenges and opportunities of climate change with particular thrust on its implications on plantation crops and spices, he said.
 
The impact of climate variability like floods and droughts could adversely affect spices and plantation crops to a large extent, he said.
 
There was an urgent need to adapt crop management, improvement and protection strategies in tune with projected climate change scenarios to mitigate the ill-effects of weather aberrations and sustain their production in ensuing decades, Kurian said.
