Senior doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi Rita Sood has been appointed as Director of AIIMS at Rishikesh, which is expected to start functioning from February next year.
Sood, who has been appointed by the Centre, has already visited the site and expressed satisfaction over the progress of construction work at Rishikesh, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said in an official release here.
He said the state government was extending all possible cooperation for early completion of the institute and added that steps had been taken to get clearance from the pollution control and civil aviation departments.
The 960-bed hospital is being constructed on 76 acres while the residential campus will be spread over 25 acres, he said. A nursing college and a trauma centre have also been proposed in the campus.
