To boost the vocational education, Maharashtra government is planning to establish a separate commissionarate.
A law, to set up `Maharashtra Vocational Education Commissionarate (M-VEC)', will be enacted soon, sources in the Higher and Technical Education Department. The objective is to integrate vocational education, training and skills development; and bring uniformity to the curriculum.
M-VEC was conceived so as to ensure a quality vocation education, sources said. All the existing vocational education institutes will be affiliated to the commissionarate, which will act as a bridge between the students and the industry.
Under the proposed bill, a registration and accreditation board too is on the anvil. The board will be a kind of monitoring cell for the registered institutes; it will also formulate rules, policy. Further, a high-level council will be set up to monitor quality of the curriculum.
