The �Swarnajayanti Fellowship� for young scientists was introduced by the Indian National Science Academy. It was organized to give budding scientists the impetus and the encouragement to carry out further studies and advanced research work in the field of science and technology. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) was set up in May 1971 with the objective of exploring the uncharted territories in the field of science and technology.This fellowship provides the financial support to a best group of young scientists for completing their research work in the challenging fields of science and technology.

The period of the Swarnajayanti Fellowship will be for a maximum period of 5 years and will not be extended under any circumstance.
