As many as 92 students of Industrial Training Institutes received scholarships worth a total of Rs.1.82 lakh here on Sunday.
Chairman and Managing Trustee of Sri Vidyasagar Educational Trust Iravatham Mahadevan said that from next year the Trust plans to support students in orphanages and students with disabilities. “We will consult our donors and take a decision,” he said.
Trustee Vandana Vidyasagar said this was the seventh year of operation of the scholarship schemes of the Trust and during the last six years 507 students received scholarship amounts totalling Rs.11.71 lakh.
ITI students who have basic educational qualification of class XII receive Rs.2,500 per annum per student, class X receive Rs.2,000 per annum per student and class VIII Rs.1,500 per annum per student. Selections are made on the basis of total aggregate percentage of marks secured in class X, XII or first year ITI.
If children in the villages study they can bring about a change in society, Dinamalar Chief Editor, R. Krishnamurthy said. Census of India 2011 statistics showed that literacy rate was 80 per cent. A silent revolution is on in the field of education, he said.
