The University of Cincinnati (UC), Ohio, USA, which recently announced a $1 million scholarships to deserving undergraduate Indian students for the September 2011 admissions, has partnered with Lend-A-Hand India (LAHI) to identify a couple of students for two full scholarships. LAHI, an NGO based in India and the USA, presently runs a three-year job and life skills training programme in 61 villages, reaching more than 10,000 students.
India is the first beneficiary country of the UC Global Opportunity Scholarship Initiative launched this year which will only make two awards every four years, and has decided to dedicate these to Indian students in its initial year. “The scholarship will provide complete funding to the academically gifted, but financially disadvantaged,” said Jonathan Weller, Director of International Admissions.
The two scholarships are available for the students entering the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) in September 2011. In addition, the University is also offering 10 half scholarships to talented Indian undergraduate students, making the total scholarship amount about $1 million. Devoid of strong English knowledge, rural students will be selected through tests lighter than the SAT and ACT. For the 10 half scholarships, applicants need to have a minimum score of 1350 (critical reading plus maths) or an ACT composite score of 30. These scholarships are available for all majors at the university. The programme will have the advantage of UC’s Co-op programme, which allows students to gain paid professional experience. For the 10 half scholarships, students may apply by December 1, 2010 to http://www.admissions.uc.edu/india.html.
