Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited, and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) have inked an agreement pertaining to women students.
As part of this agreement, Wipro will fund scholarships that will enable women students majoring in computer science and related programmes to attend research conferences across the globe.
The funds by Wipro Technologies will expand a programme, currently administered by the ACM Council on Women in Computing (ACM-W), to help women in the computing field attend conferences over the next five years -- starting from 2011.
The scholarship aims to help women advance in the fields of innovation and advanced learning. It would also enable the ACM-W to offer larger scholarships to qualified recipients.
Approximately 20 recipients will be identified as ACM-W/Wipro scholars each year, with individual funds ranging from USD 600 to USD 1,200, depending on the distance to conference venues.
ACM-W/Wipro scholars will also submit reports on their conference experiences.
