Outstanding students from India who will begin their postgraduate studies in the U.K., USA and Canada this year will get scholarships worth US $ 50,000, courtesy Educational Testing Service (ETS) that conducts the English-language proficiency test TOEFL worldwide.
Three US $10,000 scholarships and four US $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students demonstrating high academic achievement, who have already been accepted into an institution in the UK, USA, or Canada and the last date for applying for the scholarship is March 31.
Eligibility
Students who have TOEFL test scores are eligible to apply and they need to submit two letters of recommendation from a professor or university official. All the applicants have to submit an essay of essay of 2,000 words on the following topic - “Since Independence, it has been India's dream to ensure all children are enrolled in primary schools. However, drop-out levels are high despite many efforts. What new initiative would you recommend to ensure minimal schooling, and how would you implement it?
Explain why your recommended initiative will be perceived as relevant by Indian society and why it will be effective” to become eligible for the scholarships.
Applications will be evaluated by two independent raters who are professors within the Indian higher education sector and trained by ETS to evaluate your scholarship application.
The evaluation will be based on TOEFL test score, academic records, extracurricular activities, etc. The essay as well as the answers to the two questions in the application form will be a part of the selection process.
Winners will be notified on 22 May 2010.
