Two Mumbai students have been selected from across the country for the Manmohan Singh undergraduate scholarships for fully funded undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge this year.

Nisarg Mehta, 17, and Siddhant Jayakumar, 18, both Class 12 students of Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Bandra, are the recipients of this scholarship. While Mehta will be studying engineering at Jesus College, Jayakumar will be pursuing a degree in computer science and natural science from Queens' College. Both students finished Class 10 from St Mary's (ICSE) in Mazagaon.

The Manmohan Singh undergraduate scholarships were announced in 2009 through endowments from benefactors in the UK and India and are named in honour of the Indian prime minister who studied at the university. Students are eligible to apply for any subject of study except for medicine under the scholarship. Both students had also applied to other institutes in the US and UK, they said. The awardees were selected after a written application and then an interview and were informed of their selection last month. Provided they meet certain conditional requirements of grades in their Class 12 final exam, they will begin their studies at Cambridge in October this year.
