Cambridge Scholarship to an M.Sc (applied microbiology) student of VIT University

Abhinaba Ghosh, an M.Sc (applied microbiology) student at VIT University has won the prestigious Cambridge-Nehru scholarship-2012, Rajiv Gandhi (UK) scholarship-2012 and the Cambridge-Commonwealth scholarship-2012.

A native of Purnea in Bihar, Ghosh completed B.Sc (microbiology) and M.Sc (applied microbiology) from VIT.

He went to Imperial College London, United Kingdom for his M.Sc thesis work with full scholarship as a visiting researcher.

Ghosh has now bagged full-cost scholarship for the entire period of study (three years) for his Ph.D in genetics at the University of Cambridge.

The VITian was the highest ranked candidate of the department of genetics at the University of Cambridge, for the scholarship competition.

“At the University of Cambridge, I will be working on cell cycle control of spindle morphogenesis in yeast, which has significant impact in understanding the cell-cycle and cancer for my doctoral studies.

I wish to explore the state-of-the-art education facilities at Cambridge and make maximum use of this life-time opportunity,” he says.

After completion of his doctoral studies, Ghosh wishes to pursue his post-doctoral research and return to India to work for the improvement of education and research sector in the country.
