Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal announced scholarships for meritorious students of elementary classes in government schools.
Presiding over "Pratibha Samman Samaroh" function organised here by Hindi daily Amar Ujala, he said, "Scholarships will be given to ten students securing top positions in different streams."
The Chief Minister said the state government was providing Meritorious Scholarship under Medhavi Chhatarvriti Yojna, Ambedkar Chhatravriti Yojna and Thakur Sen Negi Chhatravriti Yojna to meritorious students of vulnerable sections.
He said that with a view to promoting competitive spirit among elementary students, the government had decided to offer them scholarships.
He said that District Institute of Education and Training would be the designated agency to conduct scholarship eligibility test at district-level and training institutes for students passing fifth standard with B-Grade and above ranking.
He said qualified eligible students would get an annual scholarship of Rs 800. For continuation of the scholarship in next higher class, they would be required to pass examination of respective class with a minimum of B-Grade.
The Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh has emerged as the leader in the education sector as 19 per cent of annual budgetary provisions has been earmarked for it compared to only 4.85 per cent at the national level.
He said that distribution process of free school uniform to 9,27,205 students was in progress and was targeted to be completed by end of this month.
