Tiruchis Anglo-Indian HSS bags top ranks

St. Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi, has swept the first and second ranks in the tenth standard exams under the Anglo-Indian Board. The school also accounts for the district-third rank.

Nikita Christopher and J. Sowmiya of the same school have scored 486 and 485 respectively, out of 500, to bag the top two ranks. Both have scored centums in Mathematics and Science.

Daughter of college professors Sheela Christopher and Samuel Christopher, Nikita intends to pursue Bio-Maths group in higher secondary and deems it fit to decide about her career path at the right time in the future. Being a cricket enthusiast, she ensured that the World Cup matches she watched with keen interest even during the course of her exams did not deter performance. Nikita said a planned schedule of study without much exertion saw her through, and attributed her success to the grace of God and parental support.

Like Nikita, her companion Sowmiya also banked on systematic study schedule to score marks. Sowmiya said she used to set apart four hours every day for preparations. Her parents, Jaikumar, a senior sectional engineer at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop in Tiruchi and mother Kavitha, a house wife, suspended the cable television connection for a year to avoid distractions. Sowmiya also wishes to choose Bio-Maths group in higher secondary and pursue engineering. Her ultimate aim is to become an IAS officer.

For M. Steffy, also from the same school who scored 482 to become the district-level third rank holder under the Anglo-Indian pattern, the result reflected the hard work she had put in. She scored centum in Mathematics. A voracious reader, Steffy said her aim was to gain entry into the Indian Foreign Service.
