IIT-Kanpur has withheld the result of 30 students after a probe revealed that some students indulged in cheating during the IIT-JEE examination at a centre in Bhatinda.
The Gyani Jail Singh Engineering College in Bhatinda has been black-listed and three teachers, including the Centre in-charge, have been debarred from participating in any administrative work of IIT.
IIT Kanpur, the nodal body for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for 2011, has withheld results of 30 aspirants, who had appeared for the entrance examination at the college, Registrar of IIT-Kanpur Sanjeev Kashalakar said.
The decision was taken on the basis of the report submitted by a team of IIT Roorkee, that was constituted to probe into the reports of cheating in entrance examinations in the above said centre in Bhatinda.
The report also said that the students were also given extra time to solve the paper.
The IIT administration has also constituted a three-member committee to probe into the matter in detail.
The committee has been asked to submit its report by 5 June, he said.
Results of all other candidates, however, will come on the scheduled date of May 25, he said.
Over 4 lakh candidates at 1051 centres across the country had appeared for the JEE conducted for admissions into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). IIT Kanpur was the nodal agency to conduct the examinations for 2011. The exam was held on April 10.
