The 5.5 lakh-odd CBSE students who have chosen to appear for final Class X test conducted by their respective schools instead of the traditional board examination will get their marksheets from CBSE on the same day as those who will sit for the board exam.
“After correcting the papers, schools will have to send the marks and results to the board in a digital format. The CBSE board has sent us a special password-protected software in which we have to feed in all the data,” said Avnita Bir, principal of RN Podar School in Santa Cruz.
Once the board receives the data, it will release the results of students who have appeared for the board exam as well as those who have not at the same time. Schools have been asked to keep their results confidential and not declare them to the students ahead of time.
The marksheets for all the students will be sent by the CBSE board in Delhi. The marksheet will be identical for all students, making it impossible to distinguish between those who appeared for the board exam and those who did not.
Many feel that identical marksheets will reassure students that opting out of the board exams will not affect their chance of getting into a good college. There is also another benefit to sending school scores to the central board. “This way, nobody will feel that a certain school or a group of schools is biased in their correction and has hiked the marks of its students. This will ensure the validity and reliability of CBSE results,” said Vineet Joshi, chairperson of the CBSE board.
“This means that my child will not lose out in any way by choosing not to appear for the board exam,” said a parent of a student who has chosen not to appear for the board examination.
