The results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Advanced) exam 2013 were declared on Friday, two days earlier than expected.
Out of the 12,000 students from Gujarat, over 120 students qualified for admissions into IITs. Despite the early declaration of the results, the filling of courses will, however, commence from June 24. Only the top 1.5 lakh JEE (main) scorers were allowed to take the JEE (Advanced) exam which was held on June 2, 2013.
Soham Ganatra from Divyapath School, Memnagar, was the highest scorer in Gujarat, with an All India Rank (AIR) of 15. "It was my dream to study at IIT. I had been working hard from ninth standard for the entrance exams," said Soham who got a score of 310 on the JEE (Main) Exam held last month.
"I revised and studied for more than 10 hours daily in the time-period between the Main and Advanced exams," said Kunal Agrawal of Delhi Public school who ranked 20 in India.
Both Soham and Kunal are close friends and want to study computer science at IIT Bombay. "With such a rank I have many options, but I would like to study computer science at IIT-B," said Soham.
More than 14,000 students are expected to be called for counselling. There are 9,885 IIT seats available which include 4,844 seats for general category students.
The 15 IITs which will provide admissions via JEE (Advanced) are: IIT-Bhubaneshwar, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Indore, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Madras, IIT-Mandi, IIT-Patna, IIT-Rajasthan, IIT-Roorkee and IIT-Ropar.
