Kaustubh Diwegaonkar, a youth from Maharashtra's Latur district, has been placed 15th in the country, among successful candidates at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India examinations, a Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) release said here.
After completing his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in the science stream, he opted to join the
Maharashtra-based state open university's Bachelor of Arts programme, while simultaneously preparing for UPSC examinations.
The distance education mode did not require him to attend college on a daily basis, but merely attend the contact sessions on Sundays.
Kaustubh, who was felicitated at the YCMOU's Pune regional office yesterday, gave credit to the varsity's lucid study material and advised other UPSC aspirants to benefit from its distance learning mode which allows freedom to work or acquire another degree from a conventional university.
"I have opted for the civil services, as I felt that my desire for social work will be better served in this service while making a living as well," he said, according to the YCMOU release.
