The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay ( IIT-B) on Friday released results of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The scores of the test determine admissions to postgraduate programmes in engineering colleges.
Bibaswan Kumar Chatterjee secured the all-India rank 1 in computer science, while Shimul Kumar Dam stood first in the electrical engineering stream. In mechanical engineering, Vinod Datusliya secured the all-India Rank 1, while Rohit Ronge stood first in instrumentation.
A total of 12,00,728 candidates were registered for GATE 2013, of which 39.75% were females. As many as 9,84,855 candidates (82.02%) appeared for the exam but only 1,36,699 (13.88%) have cleared the exam.
The top five states with most qualified candidates are Andhra Pradesh (22,476), Uttar Pradesh (22,400), Maharashtra (9,951), Bihar (9,820), and Kerala (8,992).
The computer-based exam for 2,02,223 candidates in 15 papers was conducted in 572 centres in 123 cities and towns across the country on January 20. The offline exam for 9,98,505 candidates in the remaining six papers was conducted in 992 centres in 183 cities and towns across India on February 10.
Of the registered male candidates, 88% appeared for the exam, while only 72% of the registered female candidates turned up for the exam.O
