About 60 students from Gujarat have scored in the 99 percentile or better in the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012, the key exam to study at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other business schools.
While no candidate from Gujarat touched the 100th percentile, the highest scoring candidate from the state has touched 99.98 percentile, said CAT convener professor S S S Kumar.
The highest ranking girl from Gujarat is in the 99.77th percentile. To promote more women in the field of management, some IIMs have changed their admission policies giving special weightage based on gender.
A total of 340 students from Gujarat in the the 95th percentile or better, out of which 47 are women candidates.
Over 7,500 students from the state took the test, which was held online from October 11 to November 6, 2012. A total of 1.9 lakh candidates appeared in the 21-day testing window.
In terms of city-wise performance, Mumbai leads with 180 candidates in the 99th percentile and betterwhile Delhi stands second place with 168 candidates. Bangalore with 157 is in the third position followed by Hyderabad with 105, Kolkata with 92, and Chennai with 85.
In all, 10 aspirants scored in the 100th, of which one is an undergraduate science student from Delhi University while the others are from engineering disciplines. Eight of the students with perfect scores come from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and five of these 10 students are still doing their graduation.
Although CAT 2012 officials announced that results would be made available from midnight, the results were declared at 3 am on January 9. But it was not a smooth run as technical glitches continued for a few hours keeping the candidates waiting.
