Chandigarh boy among top 10 with percentile marks in CAT 2012

One of 10 candidates from the country to have scored 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT)-2012, Panchkula-based Anshul Garg is jubilant. The magical score makes the 21-year-old the cream of the CAT crop.
An avid blogger, the Chandigarh topper loves reading blogs on general awareness and current affairs. He believes in spending quality time studying rather than sitting idle for hours, a mantra that has helped him excel all through his academic life. Having finished his schooling from DC Model School-7, Panchkula with 89.8%, Anshul did his Class XII from Government Model Senior Secondary School-16, Chandigarh and scored 87%. He is currently pursuing BE (electrical) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 9.16.

"Two-hour preparation each day for a few months is what took me to crack this exam," says Anshul, who beats stress by surfing the internet and keeping updated on current affairs in the fields of politics, sports, economics and the corporate sector. Eager to get a call from all 13 IIMs, the youngster hopes to secure admission in one of his dream colleges - either IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta.

Dedicating the perfect score to his parents, who Anshul says gave him a lot of freedom to follow his dreams, he says: "They have never pushed me to do something that I did not want to do. I also owe my score to my teachers at IIT-Ropar who have been very supportive."

Anshul's father Pawan Kumar runs a property business in Manimajra while his mother Shamlata is a homemaker.

"Those who are aspiring to crack the CAT or get into a good B-school must be aware of general affairs and keep themselves updated on what's happening around them," he suggests.
