Kerala University of Health and Allied Sciences Vice Chancellor Dr K Mohandas said 60 per cent students have been declared passed in the First Year BDS exams held in March 2012 as against previous years 42 per cent.
He said in a statement here that reports appearing in a section of the media that there were ‘lapses and ‘discrepancies in the conduct of exams and valuation of answer papers were ‘baseless and ‘unfounded. It was also not correct to say that there was ‘mass failure, he added.
Out of 1166 students from 22 Dental Colleges who appeared for the exams , 578 were declared passed. Besides, 95 students were declared eligible for continuing their studies in the second year as they failed only in one subject, he said.
He also denied reports that questions for 20 marks were ‘out-of-syllabus.'
The conduct of examinations and valuation of answer papers were strictly according to the guidelines of the Dental Council of India and the University, he said.
All the examinations of KUHS were being held under the supervision of one nodal officer and the nodal centre, the statement said.
