Girls again beat boys in CBSE 10th result

The Central Board of Secondary Education Class X examinations results which were declared on Thursday again saw Girls outdo boysand the Chennai region has emerged at the top.

Girls registered a pass percentage of 98.48, compared with 97.98 for boys.

Almost all of Chennai students who took the exams passed, with the region registering the highest pass percentage of 99.45, up from last year's 98.92. Its nearest rival was Patna at 99.21 per cent. It finished first last year with a pass percentage of 99.04. Ajmer retained its third position of last year with a pass percentage of 99.15, up from last year's 98.31.

In a repeat of its previous year's performance, Guwahati finished last with a pass percentage of 88.29. Last year it had a pass percentage of 85.73.

Institution-wise, it was the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, which registered the best results with a pass percentage of 99.58, followed closely by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathans at 99.36. Private schools emerged third with a pass percentage of 99.20.

Private candidates were the worst performers with a pass percentage of 16.18, down from last year's 22.04, in which they had finished last. A total of 11 cases of cheating were registered across the country, down from last year's 17. Ajmer and Panchkula with four cases each topped the list followed by Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Patna with one case each. Panchkula is holding this distinction twice, as it had emerged second last year with three cases registered. The most remarkable achievement is that of Delhi, which emerged first in this department last year with 10 cases registered. Guwahati, which had emerged third last year with two instances, did not figure at all in this year's list.
