For a record 27th year, the Virudhunagar district district notched the top position by registering the highest pass percentage of 94.68.
Out of a total of 20,365 students from 356 schools in the district who wrote the exams, 19,281 passed out.
As usual girls fared better than boys. Of the 11,018 girl students, 10,619 got through thus taking the girls’ pass percentage to 96.38. The pass percentage of boys was put at 92.67 as 8662 of 9347 made it.
However, on the flip side, there has been a marginal dip in the percentage year after year. It recorded a pass percentage of 95.07 in 2011 and 96 in 2010.
But chief educational officer B.Bhagavathi said, “Our success rate is far and above the state average which is only 89.73.
When the state average itself has come down, it is good that we have maintained the lead with a reasonably good pass percentage.”
Attributing the credit to the teachers and headmasters, he said their sincere and committed self-effort has borne fruit. “They took personal interest in maintaining the record.
And, we ensured that they did not take leave unless and until it was necessary. As for the students, we created interest in learning by conducting refreshing activities such as cultural programmes and motivational talks on special occasions like Republic Day and Independence Day.
The result is that many schools have increased their pass percentage between one and 5 percent,” Mr Bhagavathi said.
Thoothukudi district has come a close second with 94.62 percent and in all 14 districts have recorded a pass percentage of 90 and above.
