XLRI Jamshedpur hosted the first-ever national sports meet, between three of the best B-schools – XLRI, XIM Bhubaneshwar and IIM-Lucknow recently, sponsored by Tata Steel and PepsiCo. From fighting it out in tense board rooms, this past weekend the future managers of our country fought it out under the sultry sun, high on enthusiasm and the thrill to win.
The sports meet had a plethora of events like football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, badminton, swimming, lawn tennis, field and track events along with an entire gamut of indoor sports like table tennis, chess and carom. It did not stop at just sports; there were quizzes and cultural events as well, which kept the audience engrossed.
After two days of intense competition, XLRI Jamshedpur emerged as the winner, with a tally of 40 points, while IIM Lucknow was runners-up with a tally of 24 points and XIM Bhubaneswar was at 10 points. The closing ceremony was presided over by Sanjeev Paul, vice president – Corporate Affairs at Tata Steel and Charles Borromere. In addition to awarding the winners, medals were presented and special recognition given to the most exemplary players from each college. There were Nimish Singh and Sneha Pandit from IIM Lucknow, Suchir Agarwal and Bhavna from XLRI Jamshedpur and Daron Ross and Ruchita from XIM Bhubaneswar.
Delighted after the successful completion of the event, Inderjit Singh, the secretary of the Sports Committee of XLRI said, “When we approached the other B-schools with the idea of a collaborative sports meet, all of them readily agreed citing that something of this nature was long overdue. An initiative like this will go a long way in strengthening the bonds of friendship and build relationships among the managers of tomorrow,” he added.
