The three-day annual national student technical festival ‘Anokha 2011' of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will begin here on Tuesday. The theme of the second edition of the festival will be ‘National Security and Sustainable Development.'
To be inaugurated by G. Madhavan Nair, former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, the event will be a gala affair with the participation of 7,000 students from 330 colleges and universities in India and abroad. A cyber security website, www.amritaraksha.com, will also be launched.
Vijay Ratna Parche, managing director, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions; Madhusudhan Atre, president, Applied Materials; and Vishnu Potti, vice-president, Cognizant Technology Solutions, will be the guests of honour at the inauguration.
Besides students from various campuses of Amrita, those from the Indian Institutes of Technology, the National Institutes of Technology, BITS, VIT, SRM University, Anna Universities of Technology, the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and SASTRA are expected to compete in various events. Participants from universities in the U.S. and the U.K. are also expected to participate.
Nearly 40 technical events in all branches and disciplines of engineering will be conducted over three days. Retracraft, Magnus Boat, Battleship, Chamber of Secrets, Concrete Canoe, Khoj, Logikiller, Spin the Web and Better Solutions are some of the events.
Ten workshops on computer-aided chemical design and modelling, cloud computing, ethical hacking, fuel cell, hybrid systems, windmill energy systems, robotics and 4D CAD will form part of ‘Anokha 2011.' Two conferences, ‘green' technology events, technology entertainment design X event, meet the CEO, industrial engineering exhibitions, entrepreneurship development programmes, and laser and pyrotechnic shows will also be part of the festival.
Representatives from Microsoft, Dow Chemicals, AutoDesk, Zeus Numerics and Kyrion, besides those from other companies, will be present. Details of the event, technical workshops and conferences are available on www.anokha.amrita.edu.
