Of course there is a definition for sleep in medical terms. We read about sleeping sickness. Is there any definition about sleep in history. Yes! Says a news in The Hindu.
It is about the habit of sleeping during office working time in Karaikal in the year 1860. Karaikal was under rule of French. Interestingly those people who were sleeping during office hours become responsible for the publication of Nandan charithiram wrote by Goplalakrishna Bharathiyar in 1861. V.Sriram, a music historian wrote about this, that the government employees used to visit Nagapattinam to listen to Gopalakrishna Bharathiars kathakalshebam. During the inspection a French official Ciase found that the workers were sleeping during office hours. In the process of his inquiry he came to know about Bharathiar’s performance. He under stood this was the course of the entire issue. Ciase himself attended the program and was impressed.
He was the one who came forward to publish the work. Arunchala Kavi Rayar’s book was the first book which was printed and the book printed by Ciasse was the second one.
