To learn English! A funny incident!

Few days age a funny incident took place in Chennai as reported in a leading English daily “The Times of India”. The incident is about an interesting event happened in the day to day activity of a teacher from United States in Chennai who is a very particular and interested to learn Tamil. In fact he is in the process of learning Tamil lessons. He wanted to put in practice in day to day life and he attempted to do it while he went to purchase clothes in a small shop in Tambaram. The US teacher realize that the sales girl in the shop would not speak in English. She pointed out some clothes and asked the sales girl the price. She expected the answer in Tamil and from that the teacher wanted to learn Tamil. But the sales girl responded in English. But, the teacher repeated the same question to get answer in Tamil. But the answer again and again came in English. At lost the conversation ended in English between them. With determination the foreign teacher asked why the sales girl didn’t respond in her mother tongue that in Tamil. The girl said that simply, “The reason is, I want to learn English”.
