A report in The Hindu explains the situation where the candidates who have cleared IIT after lot of painful hardwork refuse IIT seat and take up some other option.
A dilemma comes in the mind of one candidate Bharath Kumar, as detailed in the Hindu. Bharath kumar has to opt any one two available choices that is, either Mechanical Engineering course at IIT Bombay or 4 year specialization programme at the Indian Institute of Science (IITSc) Bangalore. Since the student was keen in doing research he opted IISc. In the same way another candidate Gowtham who cleared successfully IIT after vigorous work left it and chose Chennai Mathematical Institute. His real claim was studying computing and Mathematic together. This showsGowtham has interest in both subjects.
Thanks to Hindu for highlighting to many by choosing the subjects which they really liked by deviating little their common path.
The surprise, this year is more than 310 students rejected IIT to get into other Institutes. It is specific to mention 76 candidates withdrew from IIT-Madras itself. 63 students left IIT-Delhi. In Kanpur 16 students left.
Indian Institute of Technology offer a total of 9885 seats. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) offer 15458 seats.
