Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), a student body of the Government Law College recently announced the fourth edition of their international law summit. Scheduled to take place from February 1 to 3, the theme for this edition of the Summit is ‘Contemporary Issues in International Arbitration and Mediation.’
It will see an eclectic mix of lectures, paper presentations, a panel discussion and two novel competitions including judgment deliberation competition, which offers participants an opportunity to hone their judgment writing skills and a treaty appreciation competition which has been modeled on the procedures of various bodies in the international sphere. The competition modules have been drafted by John Rooney, chair of the Inter-American Bar Association’s International Arbitration Law Committee and Umair Ghori, senior teaching fellow Bond University, Australia.
The summit will start off with a key note address by BN Srikrishna, former judge, Supreme Court of India to be followed by a string of seminars by Darius Khambata, advocate general of Maharashtra, Promod Nair, partner, J Sagar Associates and Abhijit Joshi, sr partner, AZB and Partners.
The panel discussion will be based on ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution: Upholding the promises of Litigation?’ and will witness an discussions by venerated panelists such as Sherina Petit, partner, Norton Rose London, Ajay Thomas, registrar LCIA India, Vikram Nankani, partner, Economic Laws Practice, Bindi Dave, partner, Wadia Ghandy and Co. among others.
The summit aims to provide a global platform for deliberation, discussion, and an opportunity to engage with the prominent legal minds in the world.
