KVTSDC organises job fair in Bangalore

Amarjeet Singh from Kashmir doing a part-time job while pursuing MBA in Bangalore was among the 700 youngsters who walked into the mega job fair organised by Karnataka Vocational Training and Skills Development Corporation (KVTSDC) in association with TeamLease Services Pvt. Ltd. here on Thursday.

The event, which marked the second anniversary of the Karnataka Employment Centre, had 250 of these youngsters being made job offers from 21 private firms, ranging from BPOs (business process outsourcing) to retail and service sector companies.

Lakshmi D., an engineering graduate from a college in Nelamangala, who was in the long queue at the fair, said that her college did not have campus selection and she was hoping to land a job at the fair.

Ranging from those who had passed SSLC and seeking jobs in the retail sector to engineering and management graduates, the fair had drawn people from not only Bangalore but many from outside, especially the smaller towns.

H.A. Keshavamurthy, Executive Director, KVTSDC, said that the centre had placed 7,400 candidates in jobs over two years in various industries. He emphasised the importance of public-private partnership in “accelerating the employment process”. He said that job fairs had been conducted all over the State.

G.S. Narayana Swamy, Secretary, Labour, said that “unemployability” was a bigger challenge than unemployment today, and the Government had established HRD centres in public-private partnership to understand the need of job-seekers. He said that seven such centres in the district headquarters were running, and three more were in the offing.

Neeti Sharma, vice-president of TeamLease, said that unlike the employment exchanges run by the Government in the past, the present employment centre acted as a bridge between job-seekers and the industries.
