In a Job Fair and Career Seminar held in several cities like Kolkata and Uluberia by TeamLease Services and Indian Institute of Job Training (IIJT), over 136 applications of job hunters were received throughout West Bengal. The Job Fair offered over 315 jobs in fields such as Sales, Insurance and Banking for graduates and candidates who have completed their plus two.
The objective of this initiative was to help the candidates in assessing themselves regarding job readiness and to build a platform that would bring jobseekers and employers together. Their coming together would be a step undertaken to bridge the skill gap between industries. According to Subhankar Bhattacharya, east divisional head at IIJT Education, “Unemployment and unemployability are the two major issues prevailing in are our country. An integrated approach, adopted by such initiatives that collaborate job seekers and employers to link the demand and supply of manpower will certainly bridge this gap.”
Over 45 candidates were short listed by top companies like India Infoline Ltd, Syntel Telecom Pvt Ltd, HDFC Life, Bajaj Allianz, Sky Tel Outsourcing, Aditi Technology Pvt Ltd, Aegis Gobal Ltd, Godrej, Dominos Pizza Ltd etc. Around 30 of the 110 applying candidates were short listed from Kolkata and 15 of the 26 applying candidates were shortlisted from Uluberia. The candidates were selected by an assessment and employability evaluation, conducted by experienced IIJT faculty and career counsellors.
