Kerala high court opined that if school youth festivals are not conducted in a proper manner, it was better not to organise them.
The observation in this regard was made by justice S Sirijanan while dismissing a writ petition by 3 students who participated in Kathakali competition in Ernakulam district level youth festival early this month. The Kathakali competition was held at 6.30 pm on Jan 5.
The petitioners said they got ready and waited for the competition which started at 4.30 am the next day. Until then, the participants could not take rest nor food and could not perform properly. The petitioners sought for a direction to give them priority to perform at the state youth festival, which began at thrissur.
Dismissing the petition, the court said if the competitions are not conducted properly, they should be stopped. Large number of petitions are coming up before the court every year prior to the commencement of the youth festival complaining about the shoddy manner in which they are being held.
