Madras varsity to follow grading system soon

Updated on: Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Following the footsteps of CBSE and the state school education department, the Madras University plans to implement grading system instead of marks for all its students.

Apart from that, the university has also made it mandatory to learn a foreign language for all MBA and MCA students.

Prof. G. Thiruvasagam, vice-chancellor of the university said that recently the state government had announced the implementation of continuous and comprehensive evaluation for school students across the state and replacing marks with grades. It's a proven fact that the grading system is a good success. Hence, we are thinking of implementing it in our university and affiliated colleges too for the benefit of our students.

After submitting an official proposal to the university's academic council, the university would take it to the syndicate for approval and implementation. For good employment chances of the students, the varsity also plans to revamp the entire syllabi and course content making it much more industry-oriented so that students are employed immediately after graduation.

The vice-chancellor said that from this academic year MBA and MCA students will have to learn either French or German, which would help them get jobs with ease.

Madras University has been teaching MA French for long with German, Italian, Korean, Russian and Spanish as electives. Several students who completed this course have joined top companies, he added.
