National Vocational Framework to be launched in Haryana and WB

The ambitious National Vocational Education Qualifications Framework offering vocational courses in class IX and X will be launched in Haryana and West Bengal.

HRD Ministry officials said the launch will be on a pilot scale covering more than 10,000 students in these two states.

The government had recently cleared implementation of NVEQF and is understood to have earmarked Rs 340 crore for it.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had held wide range of discussions with the industry covering hospitality, telecom, media and automobile in recent past in the run-up to developing the NVEQF.

The Ministry had also constituted a GoM comprising state education ministers earlier this year to frame NVEQF, the recommendations of which were presented last month.

The vocational programme, which seeks to address the shortfall of skilled hands in the industry, will offer certificates on a par with those awarded by the boards.

According to officials, the Haryana and West Bengal governments have been asked to select the schools where the courses will be imparted. The courses have been such designed that they cater to the region specific needs and requirement.

The vocational framework sets common principles and guidelines for a nationally recognised qualification system, covering schools, vocational education institutes and institutes of higher education with qualifications ranging from secondary to doctorate level, leading to international recognition of national standards.

The framework will be a competency based modular approach with provision for credit accumulation and transfer.

Students would have the scope for vertical and horizontal mobility with multiple entry and exits, the officials said
