Principals told to inform cop about ragging

Chennai: Appealing to the heads of various in educational institutions to lodge complaints on ragging immediately, the commissioner of police, T. Rajendran said.

Speaking at a meeting convened for the Principals of city colleges, he said steps should be taken to curb the menace of ragging by following the guidelines of the Raghavan Committee, the Supreme Court and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act.

Pointing to incidents of violence during occasions like the 'Bus Day' celebrations, Mr. Rajendran said college authorities should inform the local police ahead of such programmes.

The participants were sensitized subject to the law when it comes to curbing ragging…they were told not to hesitate when it comes to lodging a complaint on ragging or any other cognisable offence.

The teachers should remain in constant touch with students, both seniors and juniors.

Principals of 25 colleges took part and shared the best practices in their respective institutions, police sources said.
