KVs to have German language as subject

In the wake of demand from various quarters, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Sangathan has decided to impart German as a third language in schools soon.

The Sangathan entered into an agreement with Goethe-Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan here in this regard.

The move comes in wake of increased demand from the KVs and from different stakeholders for offering the language. Scores of KVs have gone ahead with introducing the language in the curriculum, said HRD Ministry officials.

The MoU was signed between KVS commissioner Avinash Dikshit and regional director of Goethe-Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan Heiko Sievers in the presence of Minister of State of HRD E Ahamed and Minister of State in German Federal Foreign Office Cornelia Pieper, said a statement.

The MoU will seek to imparting communicative German language training to students of KVs and training and supporting KV teachers in implementing the German project.

The schools will be equipped with materials to support the teaching of German language while the MoU will also enable KV staff to independently take over German language education, with Max Mueller Bhavan playing an advisory role.

The Goethe-Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan (MMB) supports teaching of German and offers organisational and academic support to partner institutions in the host country that choose to offer German as a foreign language as a part of their curriculum.

There are more than 1000 KVs across the country.
