Updated on: Friday, September 23, 2011

The government is understood to have given its nod to a programme which seeks to impart vocational courses in classes IX and X across the country.

According to HRD Ministry sources, the National Qualification Vocational Framework (NQVF) was given clearance by the Cabinet which met last week.

According to the programme, NQVF will initially be launched as a pilot project in Haryana and West Bengal, covering more than 10000 students of classes IX and X.

Sources said the respective state governments have been asked to select a school where vocational courses will be imparted.

The development comes in wake of the Group of State Education Ministers set up to develop NQVS submitting its report to the HRD Ministry.

The Ministry had earlier held wide ranging deliberations with several sectors including automobile, telecom, entertainment and the hospitality industry for developing NQVF.
