Withdraw GO 130, say teachers

Updated on: Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Teachers, owing allegiance to the AP Teachers' Federation (APTF), burnt copies of G.O. no. 130 demanding its immediate withdrawal. The protest was organised in front of the Collectorate on Monday in response to the call given by the APTF State unit. The participants raised slogans denouncing the ‘anti-teacher policies' of the State Government.

‘Irregularities'

Meanwhile, the strike launched by the district unit of APTF in protest against alleged irregularities in transfers and rationalisation continued for the sixth day on Monday.

The teachers are demanding suspension of the District Education Officer A. Sai Babu for allegedly indulging in irregularities.

APTF district general secretary B. Venkatapathi Raju alleged that the DEO had committed irregularities in the counselling and transfer of teachers in violation of the guidelines issued by the State Government. He noted that the federation leaders had met the District Collector on quite a few occasions and submitted representations to him seeking action against the DEO. The teachers were anguished over the inaction of the officials.

He said that representations were also submitted to peoples' representatives and Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju on behalf of APTF but no action was initiated against the DEO. CITU State leader Ajay Sarma also demanded action against the DEO.

APTF district unit honorary president G. Simhadrappadu and district secretary A.V. Jagannadha Rao were among those who participated in the dharna.
