CBSE schools seem to have waited even longer than other schools of boards as its board issued a circular recently on September 6 asking its schools to follow the Tamil reader based on the common syllabus for Classes 9 and 10.

Although, CBSE schools had the liberty to choose any textbook for subjects till Class 8, but it has generally followed the textbooks prescribed by the state for regional languages for Classes 9 and 10.

This year, CBSE schools, which opened on June 15, were using old syllabus textbooks. After the Supreme Courts direction to the state government to follow the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks, several schools had written to the board asking for direction to follow the old or new syllabus textbooks.

The board has asked schools to follow the common syllabus prescribed by the state.

The circular said, "The Tamil Nadu government recently changed its syllabus for Classes 9 and 10 for the academic year 2011-12. As per changes made by the Tamil Nadu state government, the CBSE has also revised its syllabus for these classes".
