Pondy university starts School of Engineering

Puducherry: The 24 year old Pondicherry University has planned to start school of engineering in its precincts at Kalapet within two years.

Addressing the fifth convocation at Sri Manakula Vinayakar Engineering College at Madagadipet, Pondicherry university Vice Chancellor Professor J A K Tareen said that the proposed School of Engineering would offer M.Tech (Electronics) and M.Tech (Nano Science) courses.

He said that the university offers several programmes and moreover subsidy in fees for hosteliers, free bus travell for the girl students who were also extended free accomodation in the hostels.

He said that there was increase in enrolment of girl students from 18 per cent to 45 per cent over the years. The total student would be increased to 5000 in the next two years from the present 2800 in different disciplines and the faculty strength woulld also be increased to 460 from the present 260 in the next one year.
