Help line to curb ragging incidents

New Delhi: The Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee on Ragging urged the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to establish a toll-free helpline to check incidents of ragging.

A panel headed by R.K. Raghavan, pulled up the University Grants Commission, the Medical Council of India and other regulatory bodies for failing to initiate steps to check ragging as required under the Supreme Court guidelines.

It asked the bodies to immediately act against institutions that has not taken steps to curb ragging or been able to prevent ragging incidents.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has come up with regulations that would be binding on all institutions under its purview.
