Time For Recognition

Updated on: Tuesday, August 30, 2011

IIPM over the years have instituted various awards and prizes to honour talent in different fields, who through their contributions have created a positive and lasting impact on our minds. This is also in sync with the institute’s mission statement of creating a greater consciousness in the minds of its students and the bigger mass about the finer aspects of life, beyond mere management education. The institute has hence awarded individuals from diverse fields.

The IIPM awards ceremony to be held in Kolkata on August 30 carries the same philosophy. The date is important for all of us, as it is the birth anniversary of the founder-secretary of the institute, Surama Chowdhury. To commemorate this occasion, Dr Malay Chaudhuri, founder director of IIPM and the chairman of the IIPM Awards Committee have instituted a series of awards in different fields. Moreover, in memory of Surama Chowdhury, Dr Chaudhuri has also instituted an international award Surama Chowdhury Memorial International Award in Literature. The first such award was declared in 2008, which was handed over to noted Bengali authors Atin Bandopadhyay, Syed Mustafa Siraj and Abul Bashar. The total prize money of this award is USD 100,000. In 2010, the same award was declared for internationally famed author, Khaled Hosseini.

This year’s award will be held in Bangladesh during the famous Dacca Book Fair in February 2012, while the awardees for the same would be declared on August 30, 2011.
