Lalji Singh appointed as BHU Vice-Chancellor

Acclaimed molecular biologist Lalji Singh has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, for three years.

A former director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and CSIR Bhatnagar fellow, Dr. Singh received a communication to this effect from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry on Thursday.

The 150-year-old BHU, founded by Madan Mohan Malaviya, has close to 20,000 students, including 2,500 research scholars and 650 foreign students from 34 countries, pursuing different academic programmes.

Dr. Singh, according to a press release, said he was happy over his new assignment as he had been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the same university from where he secured his Ph.D.
