Kerala HC orders status quo in allotment of seats to Engineering colleges

Kerala High court ordered status quo in the matter of allotment of seats to Engineering colleges in the state till Monday.
  
A pision Bench, comprising Chief Justice J Chelemeswar and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon, issued the order on a petition filed by Sohan Varghese of Ernakulam.
 
The petitioner filed the appeal after a single judge bench declined his interim prayer to stay the admission process in all engineering colleges.
 
The petitioner said admission process would be finalised and allotments would be completed in two or three days.
  
According to him, for almost three decades admission to engineering colleges in the state are made on the basis of entrance exams.
 
But this year a new system was introduced whereby marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination would also be added to entrance examination mark and admission would be given from a combined rank list so made with 50 per cent weightage for qualifying exam and 50 per cent for entrance examination.
