Union Minister rues commercialization to educational sector in Kerala

Commercialization of the educational sector is coming in the way of nurturing Kerala as an educational hub of the country, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs K V Thomas, said here today.
  
'Educational institutions in Kerala have now become centres of trade and commerce. It is true that running educational institutions in the state has become a costly affair now. But we must be accountable to society," he said inaugurating the World NITCAA (NIT Calicut Old Students Association) meet here.
  
The meet was a re-union of old students of NIT Calicut, who arrived here from all over India and abroad. V M Fasal Ali, Chairman, Cochin Chapter of NITCAA, said there are 23 NITCAA chapters functioning in the US and UK. NITCAA Cochin chapter has announced the institution of Prof K M Bahavuddin award for best Engineering teacher in Kerala and Prof P M Jussay award for best outgoing student from NIT.
  
Late Bahavuddin was a former Principal of NIT, Calicut and late Prof P M Jussay a teacher there. Bahavuddin award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and Jussay award a gold medal.
