IIT entrance: Govt may consider giving 3 chances to aspirants

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said that the government will consider giving students three attempts to clear IIT entrance exam against the two chances being given to them currently.

Sibal also batted for an education system where teacher is no longer the repository of knowledge.

"The education system should be such that teacher will no longer be the repository of knowledge," he said, adding that new age technologies would be increasingly used to disseminate education.

"We will connect all the 31,000 colleges through broadband internet," he said.

Participating in the Guru-Shishya award function organised by the Network 18 group, he said, "Pursuit of knowledge is the true guru for every student."

To a suggestion from the founder of Super-30 Coaching Tutorial in Patna, Anant Kumar, about giving three chances to students to clear IIT entrance test, Sibal said, "I will consider this. This is a serious issue."

At present, there are only two chances available to a student to clear the test.
