SC on govt-run school facilities

Updated on: Saturday, August 13, 2011

The Supreme Court expressed anguish that states have failed to ensure basic facilities like adequate potable water and toilet in government-run schools in the country.

"It is unfortunate that our orders have not been complied with", the bench remarked while granting time to states and union territories to file their compliance reports by September 15.

The apex court made the remarks on a seven-year-old PIL which had complained lack of basic facilities like toilets, drinking water, blackboards, teachers and other infrastructure facilities.
