9 Indians get Australian Alumni Excellence Award

In an initiative to felicitate Indian students who had studied in Australia, the Australian Government gave away awards to nine students for their outstanding contribution in their specific field at a function recently held in Chennai.

The Australian Alumni Excellence Awards -2011were presented at a ceremony held in Chennai on August 3.

Senator the Hon Chris Evans, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Jobs and Workplace Relations presented the awards to alumni from Australian education institutions who excelled in their studies and made an outstanding contribution in their chosen field.

The distinguished nine recipients of the Australian Alumni Excellence 2011 awards were N R Narayana Murthy, Chief Mentor, Infosys Limited, with Honorary Alumni award, Mr Arvind Jadhav, Chairman, National Aviation Company of India Limited with Business Leadership Award, Mr Sahil Shroff with Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Dr Jayaraman Gowrishankar, Director, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting & Diagnostics, Hyderabad with Alumni Award for Innovation and Research, Mr Raghav Sachar, Singer, Musician and Actor, Alumni Award for Arts and Culture, Ms Ameeta Wattal, Principal, Springdales School, Delhi, Outstanding Australia Awards Endeavour Alumni, Mr Sanket Shetty, Operations Manager, Sports Education Development India Limited, Alumni Award for Sports, Mr Karthikeyan Vaitheeswaran, National Consultant Livelihoods, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Alumni Award for Community Service and Mr Ravi Lochan Singh, Managing Director, Global Reach, with Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

This is the second year that this awards have been distributed.
