Lack of education main reason for backwardness of tribals

Lack of education is the main reason for backwardness of tribal population in India, a US Department of State official said.
 
Education was the foundation of progress, Reta Jo Lewis, Special Representative, Global Intergovernmental Affairs, said while interacting with students of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences which has about 15,000 students.
 
Lewis was appointed Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs in January last year and reported directly to US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
