Personality development of students essential: Omar

To deal with the problem of unemployment of a large number of youth in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said students should not only be trained academically but their personalities should also be groomed.
   
"Higher education institutions should provide subjects of high marketability to the students to enable them get placements in different fields freely and easily," Omar said while reviewing the progress of Islamic University of Science and Technology at a high-level meeting here.
   
"Our students should gain academic excellence in the fields of science and technology along with other sectors of present day utility," he said, laying stress on personality development of young boys and girls to enable them shoulder responsibilities and tackle challenges confidently.
   
Omar said his Government has flagged education as a priority sector and consolidation along with expansion in this sector is going on side by side.
   
"While expansion of colleges and universities is a continuous process, the placement of faculty and other related facilities are imperative to make the educational institutions functional units in a real sense," he said.
   
The Chief Minister asked the Islamic University to extend expert support to the 'Saffron Mission' under implementation in the state to strengthen the important economic activity of cultivating saffron.
