Institutes for disabled under scanner in HP

Shimla: In the wake of alleged rape of girl students by teachers of a school for disabled children here, the Himachal Pradesh government has ordered review of the functioning of similar institutes.

Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has written a letter to all Deputy Commissioners in the state to inspect all institutions registered with the state government under Persons with Disability (PWD) Act, 1995, said Director Subhashish Panda

At present, at least 20 institutes are registered with the state department and nearly 25 others are getting funds under the 'Sarv Siksha Abhiyan' programme.

Soon after the incident, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had written a letter to Chief Secretary Asha Swaroop to review functioning of NGOs working in the state.
